Running wasn’t something I ever truly loved—it was more of a quick, convenient way to move. But after menopause, things changed. I started experiencing stress incontinence. I didn’t know it was my pelvic floor at first; I just knew I had to carry pads, spare trousers, and even a plastic bag to sit on in the car. Slowly, I lost the confidence to leave the house.
I was told to ‘just do Kegels’ take medication, or consider surgery—but none of it worked. I truly believed that this was my life now, and that I was simply becoming ‘too old’ to do the things I used to enjoy. Then my daughter sent me a link to Alex’s program.
I started Alex’s 8-week Pelvic Floor Strength program in November 2023 and everything changed. The way Alex explained 360-degree breathing helped me finally understand how to connect with my pelvic floor. For the first time, I felt in control of my body again.
I hadn’t run in years, but with the Couch to 5K app and my continued practice of Alex’s breathing and strength exercises, I started training again.
I’ll never forget the first time I ran for 90 seconds without leaking. Then 5K. Then 10K. Then a half marathon. And, on April 27, 2025, I ran the London Marathon at 71 years of age, leak-free.
This program gave me my freedom back.
To any woman struggling with stress incontinence: it’s never too late to change. If I can do it at 71, you can too. The key is consistency and believing in yourself. I’m living proof that your body is capable of more than you think—and you don’t have to live with leaks.
You are not broken. You just need the right plan.
